LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-With just four days before Malawians take to the polls, President Lazarus Chakwera,who is also Malawi Congress Party (MCP) presidential candidate, has challenged his counterpart, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential hopeful Arthur Peter Mutharika for a one on one presidential debate.
Presidential debates are a crucial part of election campaigns, allowing candidates to present their policies and engage directly with each other. Chakwera’s move underscores his confidence and readiness to articulate his vision for Malawi.
During the rally at Salima Primary School Ground, Chakwera expressed his willingness to confront the DPP candidate directly, despite the time constraints.
“I dont like politics of castigation. We are remaining with only four days to the elections but am ready for a one on one debate with Mutharika. Mutharika is the one that I want if he can manage,” said the fired up Chakwera.
Such debates can significantly influence voter perceptions and decisions, as they provide a platform for candidates to clarify their positions on key issues facing the nation.
