LILONGWE-(Maravi Post)-Great Angels Choir says all the songs in their new album Ufumu Umodzi Siwuwukilana are ready and are looking forward to feature South African acts Sipho Makhabane and Sechaba.
The group’s music director Ephraim Zonda, said the progress with the album was affected due to Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are a choir with more members and so we cannot go into the studio now with Covid-19 pandemic,” Zonda said.
“The good news for us is that we have packaged all the songs. We want to feature Sipho Makhabane and Sechaba in the album. We hope this process will work,” Zonda said.
He said that Makhabane, who once performed at Great Angels’ show in Lilongwe wanted them to record at his studio in South Africa but they cannot do so now due to travel restrictions.
“It is difficult now to travel although Sipho Makhabane wants that we record there. We will see how things develop but if we cannot then we will just send the songs then they will send back,” Zonda said.
The group has in the past been recording their albums with the late Joseph Tembo.
“Joseph Tembo left a gap in the music industry. At the moment we will be working with Amos Mlolowah at his studio. We might also bring in some producers as well,” he said.
Zonda said they were targeting to start recording next month.
Nicknamed The People’s choir, the group has not held any performances due to the pandemic.
The Lilongwe-based group has albums such as Mwasankha Ine and Ndiyende Bwanji.
