LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola on Saturday afternoon, July 20, 2024 submitted his nominations papers to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) headquarters for the party’s Secretary General (SG) position.
After making presenting nominations papers, Chithyola addressed the thousands of his supporters who accompanied him for support both financially and morally.
He said his vision is to rebuild the party and put everyone at the same level.
“All allegations you are hearing are baseless. I have my businesses what matters is my focus on how to build the party,” said Chithyola.
He has pledged to pay the MCP headquarters outstanding water bills among others.
Chithyola is expected to contest against the incumbent SG Elsenolwer Mkaka, local government Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda and Chris Chaima Banda.
In his Remarks, MCP Regional chairman for the Centre, Zebron Chilondola called upon the party followers to refrain from inciting violence in the name of the candidates.
Chilondola said regardless of the competition, the contestants are of the same family.
“The elections will pass and the party will remain the same ,let’s not divide ourselves with the upcoming elections,” said Chilondola.
MCP is expected to hold its elective convention on August 8 to 10 this year at Bingu International Convention Center (BICC).
