LILONGWE (MaraviPost) — Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service (MPS) Loti Dzonzi has admitted the country is going through a deplorable security period, but was quick to add that the situation is going to be contained.
Dzonzi said Sunday in an interview with ZBS Radio that it “is disappointing” that crime, especially robbery has proliferated in the few past weeks.
“It is worrying, but as a service we are working tooth and nail to better things,” said Dzonzi.
He quashed speculations that the police service is unable to perform to its best abilities because of funding.
“Money will never be enough. It will never be considering the ever fluctuating global economic trends,” argued Dzonzi. “But our personnel must always remember that being a police officer is all about service. It calls for patriotism above all things.”
In the past month Malawi has registered several robbery crimes including the robbing of millions of kwacha from businesspeople and churches in the country.
