LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Fuel hikes in Malawi has already started biting many resulting into other products which were already up escalating further.
Many people are walking on foot to and fro working places, businesses due to high charges of transport.
Prices of goods and services have gone beyond nobody’s reach except for the elite.
The poor citizens are digging deep into their pockets for their survival and some others have resorted to bathing without soap not by choice but they cannot afford to buy it.
It is very pathetic to see that while prices of goods and services are continuing to go up almost daily when one visits shops, monthly salaries and wages still remains the same.
This is making one wonder that President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government has its people at heart.
Employers Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAMA) has therefore appealed to its membership to engage their workers on the prevailing economic crisis which has hit hard Malawi and beyond the reach of the poor.
ECAMA’s Executive Director, George Khaki, said economic hardships which Malawi is sailing through demands consultations between employers and employees on the way forward to reach one common good.
However, Legislator Peter Dimba writing on his Facebook page, has hailed President Chakwera for looking after the welfare of Malawians claiming that fuel prices haven’t gone beyond MK1,470 per Litre as many people had thought.
“Just like many, I, expected fuel prices to be around K1,700 per Litre, if they were to be cost-effective and I was surprised to see that Government has frozen some burdensome fuel levies,’’ says Dimba.
He observes that at MK1,470 per Litre, the adjusted prices still remains relatively lower in the region saying this is authentic leadership and great leadership is shown in times of crisis.
Dimba has asked those who believe in a prayer-answering God to fervently pray for ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war to halt the global economic somersault.
